township thanks to its hot springs, the hottest in Europe.
In its region, in a place named Chalakies,
excavations brought to light the ruins of the oldest settlement of Lesvos.
Northern to Polychnitos there is Skala Polichnitos, a beautiful fisherman
village. In the past it used to be a developed commercial center rich in
mills, stores, and saltpans.
Today it is considered to be a holiday resort
especially for its beaches Skala and Nyphida.
