FIRST HIGHSCHOOL OF MYTILINI
It is a majestic building of a neo-classical
architecture. Its architect is Argyris Adalis, who has a
lso
been an assistant of the German architects, Hansen and Tsiller. The ground
plan has the shape of an open rectangular.
It includes three floors: the underground (auxiliary
spaces), the ground floor (classrooms) and the first floor (library and a
ceremony hall). The architectural parts of the building' s front are made
of white marble. The building' s construction took place during a period
of two years 1888-1890, thanks to the expenses of the island' s
benefactors, M. Mitrelia and Z. Vournazos. In 1912 it was used by the
Greek liberating army.
Today, we will find there the A' High School and
Lyceum of Mytilini. It is situated in the centre of the town. It is for
many inhabitants a meeting point and of course an attractive monument for
the visitors.
